VRIJ WERK 2016 – 2025
Imagine you are standing on an unpaved path alongside a cornfield on a small island. It is summer, around midnight. Your eyes are beginning to adjust to the darkness. You look up. Above you, the awe-inspiring universe unfolds. It is the same image that generations before you and many generations after you have seen. You become aware that time and space coincide and that you are a small part of an immeasurable cosmos. The longer you look, the more you see. The Big Dipper is circling around the North Star, Cassiopeia, and the constellation Cygnus in the Summer Triangle. Far away, even further than the nearest stars seem to be, the Pleiades, the Seven Sisters, sparkle. In the south, low above the horizon, the planets Jupiter and Saturn twinkle, their surfaces illuminated by the light of our own sun. When you look up, you see the nebula of the Milky Way, the galaxy in which we belong.
